INDUSTRIAL SURFACTANTS

Surfactants have a multitude of uses across various industry sectors where they perform vital roles, enabling many different manufacturing and production processes, or making them more efficient.

Due to their unique properties they may be used as lubricants, coolants or carriers for other process materials as well as for their more conventional emulsifying, dispersing, wetting and mixing abilities.

Aqua-Sciences have traditionally focussed our research on surfactant technology to improve the efficiencies of applied water. Adding surfactants to improve agricultural irrigation efficiency has proven to reduce water inputs by amounts greater than 30%.

Dust Suppression

An industry sector where surfactants have enabled even greater improvements in water use efficiency is dust suppression within mining and ancillary operations. Surfactants are a simple and cost-effective additive to water control measures that reduces water surface tensions. This improves the wetting capability of water droplets which will firstly assist the prevention of initial dust emissions, and secondly increase fugitive dust capture efficiencies.

Research has proven results of water use reductions of more than 80%, and combined with improved efficiencies in application (water trucks, misters and sprayers, for example), considerable resource productivity is guaranteed.

Fire Fighting and control

In fire fighting, surfactant formulations are an ideal additive to water and will result in improved wetting efficiencies and enhanced fire fighting capacity. Surfactant additives will also contribute to a reduction in the quantity of water used in many fire fighting or fire control situations.
